Longtime Customer Adds 3G to Improve Global Workforce Productivity; Credits iPass with 63 Percent Reduction in Connectivity Costs
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. — October 14, 2008 — iPass Inc. (NASDAQ: IPAS), a global provider of services that unify the management of enterprise mobility, today announced that Hexion Specialty Chemicals, a longtime iPass customer, has added the iPass Mobile Broadband service to their mobility solution. The addition of 3G broadband connectivity has enabled the company to increase productivity by broadening remote access coverage to the Internet and the Hexion corporate network beyond Wi-Fi hotspot locations.
A Fortune 500 company based in Columbus, Ohio, Hexion Specialty Chemicals serves the global wood and industrial markets through a broad range of thermoset technologies, specialty products and technical support for customers in a diverse range of applications and industries.
Hexion initially deployed iPass Mobile Office in 2001 to replace a private dial solution. iPass Mobile Office unifies mobility management over any Internet connection, combining global multi-technology access with centralized management of devices and connections. To help companies control costs, the service is priced on a flat-rate, active user basis.
With the addition of iPass Mobile Broadband Service to the iPass Mobile Office suite, Hexion employees will now be able to get fast, reliable, cost-effective Internet and corporate network access that complements their current service from iPass which includes Wi-Fi hotspots, hotel Ethernet and dial-up. Specifically, the added 3G service enables their customer-facing employees to connect from customer sites or while in a train or taxi.
Hexion reports that its cost savings were immediate and significant: a 63 percent reduction in connectivity costs, which continue today along with a reduction in the volume of help desk calls by more than 75 percent.
Over the past few years, Hexion has been committed to enhancing its enterprise mobility strategy. The company continually reevaluates its remote access services and each time has selected iPass on the basis of performance, ease of use, global footprint, simplified end user experience and low cost.
"We have seen some impressive results thus far with the broadband deployment, and iPass service has exceeded all of our expectations," said Richard Wagner, director of IT infrastructure, Hexion Specialty Chemicals. "Our executives need connectivity and corporate network access when working with private investors and project managers need to get online quickly at customer sites. We see iPass as a vital partner as we look to continue our global expansion."
Since its formation in 2004, Hexion has grown from 2,300 employees to over 7,000. Several groups within the company who travel extensively found that they needed to improve their levels of remote connectivity to stay productive. That's when Hexion turned to iPass. After evaluating five different providers, Hexion chose iPass Mobile Office™ service for its demonstrated ability to reduce access costs, simplify the end-user experience and provide high levels of performance.
"We are proud of our successful and long-standing relationship with Hexion and are excited to once again expand their connectivity options so they can enhancing the end-user experience," said John Charters, chief operating officer at iPass. "We endeavor to help Hexion increase workforce productivity, better control their costs, and take advantage of the built-in management capabilities of the iPass solution."
